There is therefore a need to assess contractors health & safety arrangements, and increasingly this is being carried out through Safecontractor. Many large organisations now use Safecontractor as their primary means of selecting contractors. Safecontractor is effectively the clients approved contractor list. CORGI is the National Watchdog for Gas Safety in the United Kingdom. Our mission is to lead standards in safety, and play our part in creating a more certain world. Registered gas installer businesses have proven competence to carry out gas work and are in possession of certificates of competence in the areas of gas work they intend to undertake before becoming CORGI registered. The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) was founded in 1901. Its member firms range from local employers with only a few employees to national multi-service companies with many branches employing thousands of personnel - many operating worldwide. ECA members employ over 30,000 people and support 8,000 apprentices in their craft training. They dominate this sector in the UK with a collective annual turnover approaching £4.5 billion per annum. NICEIC The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting is the industry's independent, non-profit, voluntary regulatory body covering the whole of the United Kingdom. The NICEIC's sole purpose is to protect consumers from unsafe and unsound electrical work, maintaining a Roll of Approved Contractors that are assessed every year to check that their work meets the national safety standard BS 7671 (the IEE Wiring Regulations) and other relevant technical standards.
